This pretty and petite gal with big, soulful eyes is Shelley, and she is looking for her very own furever family to love and cherish for years to come. She is what we lovingly refer to as a “Pocket Pyr,” as she is a smaller version of a Pyrenees, full grown at half the size of other Pyrs (just 55 pounds). Shelley is a young, but mature girl, who is both smart and biddable. She is a joy to train, as she makes learning look like a breeze, and she is always so eager to please and make sure you know that she is the bestest girl. Shelley also has awesome house and leash manners - in fact, she may be the one teaching you what else she wishes to learn! She’s a confident, and chill dog who barks less than the average Pyr. Shelley adores her people, and she really wishes that she can always be next to you, right by your side all day long, regardless of whether you are just doing your boring everyday chores, or enjoying a good book with a warm cup of tea in the afternoon. Some of her favorite things include being brushed, going for car rides, and being carried around like a baby. While Shelley is always happy to have a non-dominant canine playmate, she will be equally content as the princess of the household and the only dog, as long as she is actively involved in everything that goes on in the family. She’d do fine in a 4-foot fenced yard, or as a leash-walk only pup. If you open your heart and your home to this perfectly petite Pyr girl, we are pawsitive that Shelley will be your best companion for years to come!

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
